It was built in the 27th century BC, during the 3rd dynasty of Egypt, in the name of Pharaoh Zoser. The design of the pyramid belongs to the inventor vizier Imhotep, who is one of the geniuses of his age. This 6-step pyramid is located in the Saqqara Region, west of Cairo. The most important feature that distinguishes this Pyramid from others is that it is built in steps. The entrance of the pyramid, which is decorated with reliefs of Zoser on its walls, is on the top step. In other pyramids, the decorations were made inside the pyramid, while it was made outside of this pyramid.

Considered the tallest structure of its time, the pyramid has a height of 62 meters. Covering an area of 40 acres, this pyramid is surrounded by 10.5 meters high walls. Inside the walls surrounding it, there is a temple, courtyard, tomb and living space. This structure, which consists of carefully hewn stones, was opened to visitors in 2020 after 14 years of restoration.

2- Great Pyramid of Cheops

The Pyramid of Cheops, which was built as a monumental tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, is also called the Pyramid of Khufu or the Great Pyramid. It is the largest of the 3 monumental pyramids located in the Giza district, which is part of Cairo. It is the only work that has survived among the 7 Wonders of the World. It is estimated that it was built around 2551 and 2560 BC. It is considered the largest artificial structure in the world in terms of volume and mass.

The outer surface of the Cheops Pyramid was normally covered with stone slabs, but this coating has not survived to the present day. Inside the pyramid, there are 3 rooms called the king and queen rooms. The pyramid, which is part of a building complex, actually consists of two temples, a road connecting these two temples, various small tombs called mastabas and pyramids around the pyramid. This pyramid made of chipped stone is a square base pyramid with a height of 138 meters. The top part of the pyramid, whose original height is thought to be 146 meters, has been destroyed by erosion.

The mass of the pyramid is estimated to weigh 5.9 million tons. The mass of each of the stones used in its construction reaches 2.5 tons. Built on a bedrock, the pyramid consists of 2.3 million limestone (limestone) stone blocks. This pyramid, built in the name of Pharaoh Mikerinos of the 4th dynasty, was completed by his son Shepseskaf after the death of Mikerinos. The slope of this pyramid, which has a height of 65 meters, is 51 degrees. The only difference that distinguishes the pyramid from the others is that the burial chamber is below. The walls of this pyramid, which is one-tenth the size of the Khafre Pyramid, are made of limestone. Unlike other pyramids, the lower floors and the burial chamber are covered with granite, which is more expensive and difficult to work with.

4- Khafre Pyramid

Known as Khafre or Kafre Pyramid, this pyramid is one of the pyramids in Egypt’s Giza Region. At the bottom of the pyramid is the king’s chamber, and at the top is the queen’s chamber. The height of the pyramid, which has an angle of 53 degrees, is 143 meters.

The protective coatings on the top of the pyramid have survived intact. The stone at the top of the pyramid weighs 36 tons. How this stone was put there is among the issues that cannot be solved. The corridors of the pyramid, which has two entrance doors, are covered with red granite lines. 23 sculptures are exhibited in the corridors. Known for the pyramids found within, Dahshur District is a Royal Necropolis located in the desert. The Bent Pyramid was built by Pharaoh Snefru around 2600 BC. The most important feature of this pyramid that distinguishes it from the others is that its ascending angle is oblique. While the lower part of the pyramid used to rise at an angle of 54 degrees, it was lowered to an angle of 43 degrees due to concerns about the durability of soft, alluvial materials. The 2 rooms inside can be reached by passing through the door on the north side of the pyramid.

6- Red Pyramid

Located in Dahshur District, the Red Pyramid is one of three pyramids built in the region by Pharaoh Snefru. The pyramid got its name because of the reddish and pinkish limestones used in its construction. In order to prevent the collapse of the pyramid, which reaches 104 meters in height, a white limestone infrastructure was created. It is the 4th highest pyramid among the pyramid structures that have survived to the present day. The inner rooms are entered through an 80-meter-long tunnel through the entrance doors to the north.

Share

Egyptian Pyramids; They are pyramid-shaped structures, often built as the tombs of the pharaohs.
