Located in the Solar System, Venus is one of the closest planets to the Sun and ranks second in distance from the Sun. However, it is also in the first place in terms of temperature. This is because Venus’ atmosphere does not allow incoming sun rays to escape. So, when the sun’s rays reach the planet’s surface, it creates a greenhouse effect on the planet’s surface and temperatures rise to incredibly high levels. The surface temperature of Venus can be above 460\u00b0C.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Experts have revealed new findings that the planet Venus is not a dead planet. Examining the Venus photos from 1991, experts determined that there was a change due to volcanic activity, indicating the presence of active volcanoes in this case. The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sent the spacecraft called Magellan to Venus in 1989 and started to study this planet. There were more than 1600 large and more than 1 million small volcanoes on the planet, as well as one of the largest, Maat Mons. Experts announced that they observed volcanic activities in the immediate vicinity of Maat Mons.<\/p>\n

This is the first direct observation of whether Venus is still volcanically active. Understanding Volcanoes Are Active<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Robert Herrick and his team analyzed data from Magellan to get clearer evidence of the existence of volcanic activity on planet Venus. During these investigations, they determined that an interesting event occurred in 1991. The same region on the planet was imaged twice, 8 months apart, and the two images differed from each other. The difference was that the mouth of a volcano near Maat Mons had increased from 2 square kilometers to 4 square kilometers. Also, the shape of the mouth of the volcano has changed, from a circular shape in the first image to a kidney shape in the second image, and its interior darkened. These changes indicated the existence of still active volcanoes on the planet Venus.<\/p>\n

Researchers speculate that the dark area at the mouth of the volcano is a lava lake. This finding may provide further insight into Venus’ internal dynamics and volcanic activity. However, more detailed and comprehensive studies are needed. Even though the planet Venus is our closest neighbor beyond Earth, it still holds many secrets, and these discoveries can help us better understand the planet’s history and evolution.<\/p>\n

Robert Herrick worked with Scott Hensley, who is responsible for NASA’s Venus-related projects, to perform various simulation studies with today’s technologies to interpret his predictions. Studies have made us think that the images from Magellan were truly an explosion. This development excited experts. Both NASA and the European Space Agency are creating new space missions to study Venus in the 2030s. Studies with modern spacecraft will provide much more detailed information about Venus.<\/p>\n
