The Toba disaster occurred in Lake Toba, located on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is known as the largest volcanic eruption of the last 25 million years. It happened about 70,000 years ago. After the eruption, the whole planet experienced winter for 10 years. The world is thought to have entered an ice age. In the research conducted by scientists, it has been determined that humanity has reached the stage of almost extinction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The explosion was so powerful that it was felt thousands of kilometers away. Because of the resulting ash and steam, some parts of the world did not see the sun for years. The vegetation was destroyed, the animals perished, and the human race faced famine. In fact, as a result of some researches, it is estimated that the number of people has decreased to 40 couples. As a result of research, it has been revealed that people living on the coast in South Africa hold out better.<\/p>\n

Effects of Toba Disaster on the World:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Human extinction was threatened when the Toba supervolcano erupted in Indonesia. This explosion at Toba is a very large vertical explosion. The resulting heat melted even rocks 1 kilometer away. In addition, even the Indian subcontinent, which was miles away as a result of the explosion, was completely covered with a 15-centimeter-thick layer of ash.<\/p>\n

Billions of tons of sulfuric acid have been emitted into the atmosphere. During the eruption, temperatures all over the world increased by up to 9 degrees. Then, because of the ash, dust and steam blocking the sun’s rays, it started a long winter for 6 years. The temperature dropped from -10 to -30 degrees. As a result, seasonal rains and streams were affected and most of the vegetation was destroyed.<\/p>\n

As a result of these negative consequences, many mammal species became extinct. In addition, the human race has come to struggle with famine. Scientists even refer to this period as the dark age of the human race. Only 10 to 20 years after the eruption of the super volcano, the ash and dust cloud began to disappear and life entered the process of returning to normal. This information was obtained from the sulfur in the 75,000-year-old ice layers that scientists studied in Greenland.<\/p>\n
