On the east side, there is Shah Ismail, one of the most cunning men to be seen in history. Shah Ismail is the founder and ruler of the Safavid State. It is a state whose purpose is to harm the religion of Islam. The Safavid Empire rules over Iraq and Eastern Arabia. He either killed millions of Muslims living there or tried to make them Safavid by force.

At the same time, Morocco, Andalusia and many regions were occupied by the crusaders and Muslims were persecuted. In fact, under the leadership of the Pope, many countries such as England united and formed a holy alliance. Their main aim is to destroy the Ottoman Empire and the religion of Islam. Hearing this, Shah Ismail took advantage of the opportunity and made a treaty with the pope. According to the plan, the Safavids would attack from the east, and the holy alliance would attack the Ottomans from the west.

Shah Ismail corresponds with the Portuguese Crusader commander and they reach an agreement. Their common purpose is to loot the Prophet’s tomb and steal it for commercial purposes. The Ottomans, on the other hand, are trying to survive despite all these difficulties. But Yavuz Sultan Selim changed the course of the event.

Yavuz Sultan Selim and Shah Ismail:

As soon as Yavuz Sultan Selim came to power, he ensured the unity of the Ottoman Empire and prevented possible uprisings. As the first thing he did, he organized an expedition on the Safavid State. After making sure of the security of the country, he started a campaign with an army of 100 thousand people, especially himself.

Since the journey was long and tiring, they tried to dissuade the Sultan. But he still wanted to stand at the head of the army. Hearing this, Shah Ismail was frightened and burned the fields to harm the army and made them wait unnecessarily many times.

The moment the Safavids saw that the Muslims were tired of the lack of food, they decided to meet them. They have chosen a region that is tactically very suitable for them. Two armies met in the Çaldıran plain. The Ottoman army, which gained power and tactical superiority, was victorious in this war. Towards the end of the war, Shah Ismail was trapped, but he somehow managed to escape by wearing his assistant’s clothes. Yavuz Sultan Selim prostrated himself in a prostration of gratitude, as Allah granted him victory in the battle of Çaldıran.

As soon as the war was over, they set out for the capital of the Safavid State. Hearing this news, Shah Ismail fled from that city as the wind. He even got out so fast that he couldn’t even take his wife with him. Thus, Yavuz Sultan Selim saved the city from the Safavid siege.

The Man Who Unites the Ummah Yavuz Sultan Selim

Yavuz Sultan Selim is a really interesting personality. He is a commander who does not know how to rest. After this victory, he wanted to go on an expedition, but had to return to Istanbul due to lack of food and weather conditions. He thoroughly cleaned the administrative staff in Istanbul and suppressed the uprisings. Yavuz Sultan Selim is a very tough commander. Those who saw this toughness and majesty understood that he was an indestructible and upright sultan.

Upon the news of the victory in the battle of Çaldıran; Almost all Muslim lands sent a letter to Yavuz Sultan Selim. They demanded Yavuz Sultan Selim to unite the Islamic world. The Sultan included all the lands from Damascus to Egypt into the Ottoman Empire. Thereupon, the Abbasid caliph gave up the title of caliphate and Yavuz Sultan Selim became the first Ottoman caliph.

When Yavuz Sultan Selim included the holy lands to the Ottoman Empire, one day, in the Friday Sermon, he was given the title of being the ruler of these lands. He said, “I am not the ruler of these places, but I can be his servant.” Thus, “Hadimü’l-Haremeyn” took the title of guardian and servant of Mecca and Medina, not the ruler.

When Sultan Selim united the Islamic world, the first thing he did was to protect the tomb of the prophet against attacks. He ordered the ships of the Islamic caliphate to sail to the red sea and the Indian Ocean. Victory was achieved against the Portuguese at sea and the Ottoman fleet reached the shores of Somalia. Somalia has been given the responsibility of protecting the tomb of the prophet.

What distinguishes Yavuz Sultan Selim from other sultans is that he has always been at the head of the expeditions from war to war. One day, the people close to him felt his tiredness and had doctors brought. Thus, it was determined that the husband caliph had skin cancer. This is due to the fact that during his reign he went from war to war on horseback under the scorching sun. The sultan, who did not know how to rest, participated in many wars even in this situation. Yavuz Sultan Selim, who participated in countless expeditions, died in 1520 when he was 49 years old.

Despite his harshness, Yavuz Sultan Selim is a very delicate and good poet. During his reign, the Ottoman treasury was filled to an incredible extent. In fact, Sultan Selim put his own seal on the treasury and said that whoever fills this treasury more after me should seal it with his own seal. Indeed, no one after him succeeded, and his seal remained in the treasury until the end of the Caliphate. Yavuz Sultan Selim, who accomplished great things, accomplished so much during his reign, which lasted only 8 years. For this reason, he is known as the sultan who fit 80 years of work in 8 years.

Share

When Yavuz Sultan Selim came to power, the Islamic world was in a state of fragmentation.
