Surviving a plane crash is considered a true miracle for most people.  But for the survivors of Flight 571, the disastrous crash was only the beginning of a horror story.  16 people struggling to survive began to eat their friends piece by piece as a last resort!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The capital of Uruguay, located in Montevideo and bordering the Atlantic Ocean <strong>Stella Maris College<\/strong>&#8216;s rugby team <strong>\u201cOld Christians\u201d<\/strong>, was getting ready to go to a match to be held in Santiago, the capital of Chile.  The Uruguayan army stepped in for their trip and helped the Old Christians team, which had limited resources, reach Chile without any problems. <strong>A Fairchild FH-227D aircraft with Flight 571 <\/strong>was assigned.  This 4-year-old plane was to take off from Montevideo, cross the Andes Mountains that cut across South America, and arrive in Chile.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><noscript><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi13.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11829\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p><strong>On October 12, 1972,<\/strong> <strong>5 crew and 45 passengers in total<\/strong> They took off from Carrasco International Airport in clear weather conditions and followed the planned route towards Argentina.  However, due to worsening weather conditions, the flight crew decided to wait for the storm to pass before crossing the Andes, and they took the warnings into account and landed in Mendoza, Argentina.  The FH-227D had huge mountains ahead and a storm that needed to calm down before it could reach its destination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The incident in question was the subject of the 1993 movie Alive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"637\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11822\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi-1024x637.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"637\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi-1024x637.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11822\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ucagin-dusmesine-neden-olan-korkunc-hata\"><strong>The Terrible Mistake That Caused the Plane to Crash<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After a one-day break, the FH-227D prepared for the journey again, after refueling and a short check. <strong>Mendoza<\/strong> He left his city.  Although the weather conditions were better than the day before, aircraft in the region were reminded to be careful against sudden weather changes.<\/p>\n<p>Taking off at 14.18 in the afternoon, the captain pilot of the plane, Julio Ferradas, was heading towards the Andes for the 29th time with experienced co-pilot Dante Lagurara.  Considering the aircraft&#8217;s limitations, Ferradas chose the southern route instead of heading west.  The highest altitude reached by the FH-227D was approximately 7 thousand meters, extremely close to the peaks of the Andes Mountains.  Ferradas, in order not to risk flight security, <strong>Planch\u00f3n Pass<\/strong>He was planning to cross the mountains using .<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11824\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi2.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi2.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11824\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>The aircraft, under Ferradas and Lagurara, reached the Planch\u00f3n Pass about an hour after takeoff.  The pilot contacted air traffic controllers and reported that the plane was about to overshoot, but neither the pilot nor the controllers knew the plane&#8217;s actual location.  The pilots, who could not establish visual contact because the weather was cloudy, assumed that the plane had crossed the pass and was over residential areas.  Unaware of this misunderstanding, the controllers gave FH-227D permission to descend, and co-pilot Lagurara began to descend with the approval of the pilot-in-command.  However, the pilots were too late to realize the mistake.<\/p>\n<p>The plane started to descend by piercing the cloud layer and soon crashed into an unnamed peak.  Later <strong>Cerro Seler <\/strong>This peak, which was called , was located on the mountainous border between Chile and Argentina.  The plane hit the summit at an altitude of 4,200 meters, tearing off its right wing and creating a large hole in the fuselage, and then its left wing was also torn off.  All that remained was a body moving through the air, and this body slid down the steep surface of the mountain and stopped by getting stuck in a snowbank.<\/p>\n<p>The survivors were stranded on the mountain for a long time after the accident and were only rescued two months later.  This accident turned into an extraordinary event <strong>The whole world was horrified<\/strong> It reached its climax when it turned into a tragedy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"598\" height=\"434\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11823\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi1.jpg\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"598\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11823\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Survivors&#8217; Struggle for Life<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Of the 45 people on the plane, 12 died immediately and 6 people died in the following days.  what remains <strong>27 people,<\/strong> Desperately waiting to be rescued will terrify all who hear <strong>A 72-day struggle for life<\/strong> had to give.<\/p>\n<p>The search efforts initiated immediately after the accident focused primarily on the location that the pilots reported incorrectly.  However, as misinformation emerged soon after, studies <strong>Andes<\/strong> moved to the region.  continuing for days <strong>searches were unsuccessful<\/strong> and the wreckage of a white plane was not found under the white snow cover.  Finally, the teams fell into despair, accepted that all the passengers were dead, and terminated the work.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11825\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi4.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi4.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11825\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>27 people, who learned from the radio in the plane wreckage that the rescue efforts had stopped, struggled to survive for a while with the food they found on the plane and among the passengers&#8217; personal belongings.  They tried to protect themselves from the cold by removing parts from the plane wreckage.  However <strong>8 more people lost their lives as a result of an avalanche in the accident area on October 29<\/strong>.  Food was gone, the weather was cold, and the survivors were running out of options.  At this very moment, the bodies of those who lost their lives in the accident caught their eyes.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Unveiling of the Cannibalism Drama<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The survivors, who tried to survive on chocolate, jam, nuts and candy for a while after the accident, had to face the reality of eating the bodies of their deceased friends and family members as the food ran out.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11826\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi10-1024x576.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi10-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11826\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Roberto Canessa,<\/strong> When he realized that the situation was inevitable, he decided to use a piece of glass he took from the wreckage of the plane as a knife.  Since he was a medical student, he thought he was the most suitable person to perform this procedure.  While talking about what happened in the book of his memories, Canessa said, <em>\u201cWhat we did 9 days after the accident <strong>The first cut will never be forgotten <\/strong>It is a memory.  We took the meat we cut from the debris and placed it on a sheet metal we made.  Everyone held on until their last strength, and when we were exhausted, we started eating the meat we had cooked.  We all made this decision individually, and once we did, there was no turning back.  &#8220;This was our farewell to innocence.&#8221;<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<strong>There were people who accused us of cannibalism<\/strong>.  &#8220;But when you kill someone, you become a cannibal.&#8221; <\/em>Canessa said and added:<em> \u201cI don&#8217;t care about the accusations.  We had to do this.  &#8220;Dead bodies had the protein and fat we needed, and that&#8217;s what we did to survive.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What the survivors eat <strong>The first bodies belonged to the pilot and co-pilot<\/strong>.  The castaways didn&#8217;t know them and didn&#8217;t want to do this to their friends&#8217; bodies.  A few passengers who refused to eat human meat died in a short time, unable to withstand the cold and hunger.  A woman who refused to eat dropped to 25 kilos on the 60th day and died.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11827\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi6.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi6.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11827\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Survivors&#8217; Efforts to Survive<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After days of struggle for survival, the survivors decided to do something to escape and chose 3 people who were still strong. <strong>Nando Parrado, Antonio Vizintin and Canessa,<\/strong> First, they started walking around the crash site to understand what was around them.  However, the initial stages of the rescue efforts were unsuccessful and had a negative impact on the morale of the survivors.  Because there were no signs of people where the accident occurred.  Everywhere was covered with endless snow and mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Parrado, Vizintin and Canessa, who returned to the accident site after their first attempts, prepared in a more planned way and left the accident site to reach people again on December 12, exactly 2 months after the accident.  Approximately <strong>After a difficult walk that lasted 9 days<\/strong>Unable to get enough food, Vizintin left Parrado and Canessa and returned to the crash site.  However, Vizintin&#8217;s return to the crash site took only 3 hours.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11828\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi7-1024x768.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi7-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11828\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>On the 9th day of their walk, Parrado and Canessa were trying to light a fire by a river when they noticed figures appearing on the opposite bank.  Dual, <strong>when they meet strangers for the first time in about 2 months <\/strong>They took action immediately.  Parrado and Canessa tried to explain their situation to the people on the other side and heard people on the opposite shore shouting &#8220;Tomorrow&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The duo spent the night by the river and saw the horsemen returning the next day.  Parrado and Canessa managed to send a piece of paper and a pen wrapped in a stone to explain what happened to those on the opposite shore and asked for the aid teams to be notified.  Shortly after receiving news that there were survivors of the FH-227D crash, search and rescue teams took action again. <strong>On December 22, a helicopter sent to the area by the Chilean Air Force rescued half of the survivors from the crash site.<\/strong> The next day, another helicopter rescued the last people around the wreckage and left the area.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11830\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi5.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi5.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11830\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Details of the Incident Horrified the Whole World<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The world was shocked when it was revealed that the survivors had survived by their own efforts for 72 days.  The victims, who stated that they survived by eating the cheese they carried with them after the accident, were planning to share other details with their families.  However, after the photographs taken at the accident scene were leaked to the press, <strong>The whole world was horrified.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When it was revealed that the survivors survived by eating the bodies of the dead, <strong>Discussions about cannibalism began in the press<\/strong>.  When the discussions grew and reached an international level, the Catholic Church stepped in and made a statement pointing out that the survivors acted this way because they had to.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11832\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi8-1024x512.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/And-Daglari-Ucak-Kazasi8-1024x512.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11832\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>The remains of those who lost their lives in the accident, <strong>He was buried under a pile of stones half a mile from the crash site.<\/strong>.  An iron cross was placed in the middle of the grave.  The remains of the plane wreckage were burned out of concern that they might attract the attention of adventurers.<\/p>\n<p>In the years after the accident, many books were written about the incident and the events were the subject of many films.
