The gigantic monument, located in the Black Hills National Forest in America, has a very magnificent structure. The building, which was named the Devils Tower, is known to have occurred 40 million years ago. The tower, which is a geological formation, is an extremely interesting place with its legends and history. Its height from the ground is known as 1558 meters.<\/p>\n

It is the world’s largest columnar example with geometric shapes on it. Climbers William Rogers and Willard Ripley first climbed the Devil’s Tower in 1893. These climbers, who discovered crevices extending upward from the ground, built ladders with wooden planks in order to climb. Although parts of the staircase can still be seen today, it is thought that it was used until 1927.<\/p>\n

This building, which the Indians live and consider sacred, is still visited by the Indians. In June, they hold rituals near the tower. This interesting natural wonder was the first structure to be declared a United States National Monument in 1906.<\/p>\n

Legends Believed About Devil’s Tower:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The locals living near the tower believed that a god lived on top of this structure and that this god caused storms. According to Indian legend, a group of girls who go to the area where the tower is to play are chased by bears. Sitting on a rock to get rid of the bear, the girls fell on their knees and prayed to the great spirit. The great spirit accepted their nature and raised these rocks from earth to heaven. So they got rid of the bears. While the bears were trying to climb the tower, they left deep claw marks on the edges. The lines on the sides of the devil’s tower are the fingernails of the bear. It is believed that the girls who get rid of the bear and rise to the sky go to heaven.<\/p>\n

According to the Indian legend; A devil sits on the rocks. This devil sits on the hill and starts playing drums. This creates thunder and lightning. For this reason, the Indian people tried not to settle in the immediate vicinity of this tower.<\/p>\n

How Was the Devil’s Tower Formed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Devil’s tower is a single piece of volcanic vent made of igneous rocks. It is accepted by geologists as a formation arising from magma in the earth’s core. As magma approaches the surface, it cools and turns into rock.<\/p>\n

The landforms on the rocks are formed during this cooling process. During the cooling phase of the magma, shrinkage occurs and pressure builds up around these points over time. With the release of the pressure, slits form from top to bottom and a columnar structure is formed. This columnar structure formed hexagonal shapes on the tower.<\/p>\n

The rocks that make up the tower are igneous rocks that are more resistant to erosional forces. The sediments on it have eroded over time. Environmental factors such as rain, snow, and wind eroded the sedimentary rocks, making the tower more visible. The cracks forming the columns on the column continue to wear down and fall off.<\/p>\n

Although there is clear information about the formation of the tower, no definite conclusion has been made about this extraordinary size of the tower. In addition to its gigantic height, the tower also has a very large diameter. The highest part of the tower has a large area the size of a football field. The base circumference is approximately 1 mile. The tower has a structure resembling a tree trunk.<\/p>\n
