This, “zombie deer disease” It became the 33rd state to record a disease in wildlife, also known as diarrhea, which is characterized by the strange behavior of infected animals.

The infected animal was a white-tailed deer hunted by hunters during the state’s hunting season and was found April 5, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

“To date, no management actions have been proven to cure deer against CWD, prevent them from contracting CWD, stop or significantly slow the spread of CWD, or make deer herds CWD-free,” the department said.

First in the 1960s CWD, discovered in Colorado, is caused by a misfolded protein called a prion and affects the nervous system of deer, elk and elk. This disease can cause creatures to appear lethargic, move unsteadily, and drool excessively. Animals with CWD often die with a cast of skin and bones.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises hunters to avoid deer that are sick, dead, or acting strangely, and to handle game meat with gloves and other hygiene procedures. Hunters are also encouraged to follow the state’s published recommendations and use resources to test their meat if possible.

CWD is contagious among deer and is spread through bodily contact, bodily fluids, and contaminated environments. This disease can persist in the soil of a region for years. In states close to Indiana, such as Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky, this disease has been seen in animals.

Can Zombie Deer Disease Transmit to Humans?

CDC says, “To date, CWD has There is no strong evidence that it occurs in humans and it is unknown whether humans can become infected with CWD prions,” he explained.

Researchers examined the case of two hunters who ate infected venison and later tested positive for a rare and fatal brain disease, but concluded that more study was needed to establish any possible link.

Researching zombie deer disease, Dr. “The mad cow disease outbreak in the UK is an example of how things can get out of control when there is spread from farm animals to humans, for example,” said Cory Anderson. “We are talking about the possibility of a similar situation occurring.
