Because the Blue Hole, which is stated to be one of the most beautiful and cleanest places in Egypt, contains great dangers as well as its beauty. For this reason, touristic dives in the sinkhole, which has a depth of 120 meters, are limited to 25 meters. Authorities state that the biggest cause of deaths in the Blue Hole is due to uncontrolled attempts to dive deeper.

According to experts, people who dive after a certain depth experience nitrogen narcosis (depth drunkenness) due to high pressure. People who experience depth drunkenness experience great confusion, which leads to loss of orientation and causes death.

Some people who had previously experienced deep intoxication in the Blue Hole said that they saw a bright light while diving and thought it was the water surface.
