Ongoing excavations in this context reveal that \u00c7akmaktepe may be an even older settlement than G\u00f6beklitepe. Dr. Fatma Sahin<\/strong>explains the initial process and progress of the research in \u00c7akmaktepe with the following words: <em>\u201cWe started surface research in the region in 2012. We turned the pandemic period into an opportunity and had the chance to conduct long-term research here. Our research took place in the area west of the Harran Plain and we identified many previously unknown settlement areas. Most of these settlements belong to the pottery period and hunter-gatherer communities. One of these settlements was \u00c7akmaktepe. We started excavations the same year. <\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" alt=\"\u00c7akmaktepe, 1000 Years Older Than G\u00f6beklitepe\" class=\"wp-image-14806\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe-1024x576.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"\u00c7akmaktepe, 1000 Years Older Than G\u00f6beklitepe\" class=\"wp-image-14806\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p><em>We can say that \u00c7akmaktepe is the ancestor of G\u00f6beklitepe and Karahantepe. Here we found a large structure, approximately 16 meters in diameter, carved into the bedrock. Inside this building, we found burnt animal heads that were burned outside and placed inside the building. These animal heads include species such as wild cattle, sheep, goats, equids and gazelles. Carbon-14 testing has not been done yet, but based on the chipped stone materials found, we estimate that the settlement in \u00c7akmaktepe dates back to 10 thousand BC, that is, 500 to 1000 years older than G\u00f6beklitepe.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14809\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe3.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe3.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14809\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In Search of a 10 Thousand Years of History: The Importance of \u00c7akmaktepe<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Although Carbon-14 testing has not been done yet, the chipped stone artifacts found in the excavations indicate that \u00c7akmaktepe&#8217;s history dates back to B.C. It indicates that it extends to 10 thousand. This positions \u00c7akmaktepe as a settlement 500 to 1000 years older than G\u00f6beklitepe. This finding, which arouses excitement in the world of archaeology, also paves the way for new questions about the origins of areas such as G\u00f6beklitepe and Karahantepe. \u00c7akmaktepe is expected to enrich our knowledge of human history.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"421\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14808\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe4.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe4.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14808\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traces of Private and Public Buildings in \u00c7akmaktepe<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In \u00c7akmaktepe, not only buildings that can be considered as residences, but also monumental buildings with public functions are brought to light. Assoc. Prof. who directed the excavations. Dr. Hawk, <em>\u201dThe structures in G\u00f6beklitepe are defined as temples. Here we say &#8216;private&#8217; or &#8216;public building&#8217;. During the excavations, we found a structure with a diameter of approximately 16 meters, created by cutting the main rock. This structure was buried while abandoned, just like in G\u00f6beklitepe. Obelisks and wall stones are carefully placed aside. This shows that the structures were completely destroyed and left in the pre-G\u00f6beklitepe period.\u201d<\/em> he explains.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"421\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14811\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe6.webp\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Cakmaktepe6.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14811\" style=\"width:820px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>In order to protect the finds after the excavation, the ruins are covered with nylon tarpaulins during the winter to prevent them from being affected by harsh weather conditions.
