The formation of these historical structures, which make the Cappadocia region a special geography, is also very interesting. According to the data obtained as a result of geological excavations, active volcanoes and nature were effective in the formation of Fairy Chimneys. Many researchers and travelers from various parts of the world visit the region in order to see these historical beauties, which are very popular.

Fairy Chimneys are a different formation in which there are cap-shaped rocks on a conical body. While the body of the chimneys consists of volcanic tuff, the cap on the body consists of harder rocks. These rocks, which are hard and durable, apply pressure to the lower part of the body, thus preventing wind erosion on the body.

Fairy Chimneys were used as structures where Christians could worship centuries ago. The houses of worship built in the 3rd century have survived to the present day by undergoing various abrasions. Many tribes and empires dominated the region. For this reason, it is possible to see the traces of different civilizations.

60 million years ago, the Taurus Mountains rose and the fault line was compressed. Due to the compressed fault line, the volcanoes in the region exploded. When the volcanoes started to spew lava at the same time, the lava descended to the Cappadocia plain of Nevşehir. For this reason, inland sea lakes and streams in the region have completely dried up. A 150-meter-long ash and lava layer was formed in the region. The resulting lava and ashes contain basalt chemically. Basalt formed hard rocks. The flood waters flowing in the region started to beat the rocks and deep undulating valleys emerged. In these valleys, many formations have emerged over time with effects such as wind erosion, rain, flood waters.

The Most Beautiful Places to See in Cappadocia;

Pasabag Priests Valley

Paşabağ Priests Valley is one of the most visited places where Fairy Chimneys can be seen best.
