Fasting has many spiritual benefits. During a month in which patience is learned, people learn to empathize, understand the situation and tolerance once again. Fasting in Ramadan has numerous benefits for the human body, apart from being a worship. These scientifically proven benefits are surprising.

While fasting people perform their worship, they also put their bodies into a repair process. In this process, where caffeine and nicotine consumption decreases, the body begins to repair itself. Normally, the body’s defense and immune system weakens as the metabolism is busy with digesting the foods consumed during the day.

When fasting; Since this time devoted to digestion decreases, the stomach and intestines rest and renew themselves in this process. Fasting, in particular, allows the liver to rest, which is working non-stop. With the performance of the white blood cells in the blood, it is ensured that each organ in the body is rested separately and that it gains immunity against diseases.

Scientific Experiments on Fasting

Scientist Clive McCay conducted an experiment on rats about the benefits of fasting. In the experiment, two sister mice born on the same day were used, and these mice were given food at different periods. In the experiment, one mouse was allowed to eat as much as he wanted, while the other mouse was given very little food. As a result, it has been observed that the rat that eats excessively quickly ages, gets sick and weakens due to this reason. Likewise, it was observed that the underfed mice were much younger and healthier.

This experiment by Clive McCay destroyed all the known about nutrition and revealed a brand new idea. Comparing the regularly fed and nearly starving rats revealed many clues about a long and healthy life. This experiment is one of the scientific studies that clearly demonstrate that fasting is extremely beneficial in renewing and rejuvenating one’s body.

Due to the numerous benefits of fasting to the body, a diet called “intermittent fasting” is applied not only in a religious sense but also in order to lead a healthy and fit life. The regeneration of cells as a result of triggering hunger by fasting has also been proven by the studies conducted by Nobel Prize-winning Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi. Presenting this work as a thesis, Ohsumi has scientifically proven the benefits of fasting for human health and received the Nobel Prize in this way.

Benefits of Fasting

. Repairs Cells

When fasting, the cells in the body begin to break down, and the dead and dysfunctional proteins formed over time begin to be thrown away. Thanks to this process called autophagy, the risk of catching diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s decreases.

. Reduces Insulin Resistance

Diabetes disease has increased significantly in recent years due to irregular nutrition and lack of movement. High blood sugar causes an increase in insulin resistance. fasting; It significantly reduces blood sugar, while reducing insulin resistance. It greatly reduces the risk of developing diabetes.

. Reduces Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

Oxidative stress is one of the conditions that cause aging and many chronic diseases. Studies have shown that fasting increases the body’s resistance to oxidative stress. It has also been observed that long-term fasting provides protection against inflammation that causes many diseases.

. Protects Heart Health

An unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle increase the risk of heart disease. Fasting increases HDL cholesterol, which is known as good cholesterol, which supports heart health, and reduces the rate of bad cholesterol. Adiponectin, a hormone that protects against heart diseases, is also known to increase.

. Increases Mental Functions

Since metabolic activities decrease while fasting, the body focuses more on perception and learning. It has also been observed that fasting increases the growth of nerve cells that will be beneficial for brain functions.

. Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease

There is no definitive treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, which is common among older people. It is extremely important to try to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. In this sense, it has been revealed that fasting delays and significantly reduces the occurrence of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

. Accelerates Fat Burning

. Soothes Stomach and Intestines

. Strengthens Mind Functions

. Strengthens the Body Against Difficult Conditions

. Revitalizes and Brightens the Skin

.
