In addition to being known for being ruthless, they have made many contributions to world culture.  They are a mysterious and wise people who train raiders and discover new continents.  The word &#8220;Vikingr&#8221; means &#8220;looter, pirate&#8221;.  Hence, the North Germans, regardless of who they were, were generally called by that name.  Vikings, who are the subject of TV series and movies, are generally known as a pirate people who wear horned helmets and plunder the places they go.  However, research on Vikings has revealed that there are different aspects beyond what is described.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vikings do not have a regular army, all men and women in the society are warriors.  The large Vikings combined these aspects with their warrior spirits and excelled in conquering the places they went.  They behaved ruthlessly in the places they conquered, killed those in front of them and plundered the lands.  They generally traded in luxury goods such as silver, silk, spices, wine, jewellery, glass and pottery.  To purchase these goods, they bartered domestic products such as honey, tin, wheat, wood, iron, fur, leather, fish, and walrus ivory.  Because they were made up of people from very different groups, they communicated in many different languages.  But the mother tongue of the Vikings is known as Old Norse.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2901\" width=\"840\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/viking2.jpeg\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/viking2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2901\" width=\"840\" height=\"518\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Vikings, a warlike people, conquered many parts of the world, including North West Europe, between the 8th and 11th centuries.  It is even possible to see the Viking traces in the Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul.  Many monasteries and places of worship were destroyed by the Viking raids.  Those who escaped from the Viking raids and took shelter in the mountains told the events they lived for many years in a dramatic way.  For this reason, centuries of Viking fear and hostility emerged.  Europeans remained indifferent to Viking culture for a long time, and later these tribes were depicted as a primitive, far from civilization.<\/p>\n<p>Vikings, who lived as a nomadic and warlike people, could not establish a written tradition.  For this reason, it is very difficult to trace their culture.  Since the written sources are weak and there are negative narratives about the Vikings in the western sources, it has not been possible to go beyond being known as a plunderer and pirate people.  Archaeological researches indicate that there was also a Viking culture full of delicacy. But Vikings do not have a habit of wearing helmets.  In Vikings, only the aristocratic class wear helmets during wartime.  The horned helmet was first used in a German theater in 1876, when the horned helmet was chosen as a Viking costume.  Due to the popularity of this costume, Vikings began to be portrayed with horned helmets. They have made a great contribution to the development of world culture due to their wide trade network.  They communicated among the peoples by telling what they saw while selling their products in every port they went to.<\/p>\n<p>Vikings, who have an adventurous spirit, did not stay tied to one place, but went to many parts of the world.  It is even known that the Vikings discovered America long ago.  At the same time, its complex laws, administrative traditions and social structures are remarkable by many researchers.  In the process of Christianization, they combined their laws with Roman and church accumulation.  All previous Viking works show that they were a wise society.<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking about Vikings is that they didn&#8217;t wash and they were filthy.  However, Vikings, a nomadic tribe, have easier access to water than people living in settled life.  At the same time, due to the lifestyle of the Vikings, most of their lives were spent on the sea.  It is known that the Vikings were a hygienic people, had a habit of washing and were far ahead of the Europeans in food safety.  Apart from war, Vikings are very well-groomed people in their normal lives.  Excavations revealed that, in addition to their hairstyles, they dyed their hair blonde.  In the Vikings, especially blond hair was considered a sign of power.
