The statue, made in the name of the Greek sun god Helios, is the most ambitious and tallest statue of the Hellenistic period.  The gigantic statue at the entrance of the harbor of the city of Rhodes was made to thank the gods in honor of the victory over the invading enemies.  It is not known exactly what happened to the statue, which does not even have any remains today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>B.C.  In 305, Macedonian Antigonites attacked Rhodes and the siege lasted for 1 year.  After the peace was made, the Rhodesians had the Rhodes statue built, which is very similar to the Statue of Liberty in the United States.  The statue, made by the sculptor Khares of Lindos, is made of bronze and has a height of 32 meters.  The construction of the statue took 12 years BC.  It was completed in 282.  It is said that the statue is gigantic, and that even human arms are too big to wrap even a finger.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"670\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2909\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/rodos2-1024x670.jpg\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"670\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/rodos2-1024x670.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2909\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 id=\"h-rodos-heykelinin-ozellikleri\">Features of Rhodes Statue<\/h3>\n<p>Rhodes Island has been at the intersection between the Aegean and the Mediterranean since ancient times and was an economic center in antiquity.  The city of Rhodes, which has the same name as the island, was founded in BC.  It was built in 408.  City BC.  It was conquered by Mausolos of Halicarnassus in 357 BC.  It was conquered by the Persians in 340.  Later BC.  It was conquered by Alexander the Great in 332.  After Alexander the Great, the Antigonites besieged the island and the siege was lifted by making an agreement.  The Antigonites left many war machines there while leaving the island, and the Rhodesians used them to build the Rhodes Statue.<\/p>\n<p>It is said that ships pass between the legs of the statue at the entrance of the port. It was destroyed after an earthquake in 225 or 226 and remained on its side for several centuries.  French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi made the Statue of Liberty in New York, inspired by the Rhodes Statue, based on the drawings and narratives of the Rhodes Statue.<\/p>\n<p>The statue, which is said to symbolize unity, was believed to protect the island from all evil.  After the statue was made, ceremonies and celebrations were held in front of the statue in order to thank the gods.  In these celebrations, 4 horse-drawn chariots were thrown into the sea and it was believed that the sun god traveled the world with the thrown cars.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2911\" width=\"840\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/rodos.png\" data-lazy- title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/rodos.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2911\" width=\"840\" height=\"360\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Due to the absence of any remains of the sculpture today, information is obtained from the narratives and the pictures drawn.  According to this information, the statue of God Helios is crowned and naked.  Turning its face to the sky, the statue holds a watch in its left hand and protects the port with a spear in its right hand.  Iron beams and frames were used to keep the statue standing.  A strong and solid foundation has been laid so that the statue can hold onto the ground securely.  The bronzes collected from the war machines remaining from the siege were used, and the siege towers served as scaffolding.<\/p>\n<p>There are many different explanations about the statue.  Another is that all the bronzes in the hands of the people were collected and melted to make the statue.  It is also said that the statue holds a torch in its hand.  The statue, whose remains are said to have been found for about 800 years, was collected and sold by Arab traders.  Approximately 900 camels were used to transport the pieces.
