There are 3 crater lakes with their extraordinary colors on the mountain, which has a height of 1639 meters.  These lakes, which are extremely interesting, change color 6 times a year.  Due to this change, Kelimutu Mountain and lakes;  It creates the most interesting and beautiful images of the world.  Kelimutu National Park and natural lakes are among the most touristic places of the region.  To reach the summit, where the view is most beautiful, it is necessary to take a long walk on steep and winding roads.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lakes, located at the summit of the Kelimutu Volcano, which last erupted in 1968, are also of interest to geologists.  The lakes, which change color periodically and independently of each other, are not exactly known what color the visitors will be when they reach the top.  When and what color the lakes will be cannot be predicted in advance.  Lakes are usually blue, green, red and black.  However, it can change color over time and turn into shades of white, black, red and blue.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"700\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3427\" data-lazy-=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/kelimutu.jpg\" title=\"\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/kasifiz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/kelimutu.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3427\" title=\"\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h3 id=\"h-gollerin-renk-degistirme-sebebi\">The Reason for Lakes to Change Color<\/h3>\n<p>These lakes, which are considered to be the resting places of the deceased souls, are called &#8220;the lake of the old&#8221;, &#8220;the lake of the young and the virgins&#8221; and &#8220;the lake of the evil spirits&#8221;.  Tiwu Ata Mbupu (the lake of the elders), located in the westernmost of the 3 lakes, is usually blue in color.  The other two lakes separated by a common crater wall are;  Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (the lake of the young and the virgins) and Tiwu Ata Polo (the lake of evil spirits or the enchanted lake) are colored green and red, respectively.  Especially these 2 lakes change color regularly.<\/p>\n<p>The reason why the 3 crater lakes, which are filled with volcanic liquids, change color periodically;  It is formed as a result of chemical reactions originating from the minerals in the lake.  Small holes under the water that spew volcanic gas cause the colors of the lake to change to shades of red, blue or green. However, local people in the region believe that the color change of the lakes is due to a deeper and mystical reason.  They believe that lakes are a sacred resting place of souls.  It is believed that when a person dies, he enters one of these lakes according to his age.<\/p>\n<p>The white colored Tiwu Ata Mbupu, located in the westernmost part, is considered to be the lake where old souls enter.  This lake, which is usually in white and blue colors, also takes on blackish colors.  Babies, children, virgins, and young souls who die early in life are believed to enter the Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai lake.  This lake, which is usually green, changes color at certain times.  The evil spirits, who have committed many crimes throughout their lives, enter the Tiwu Ata Polo lake.  This lake, which is usually red in color, changes color and turns into different shades of blue, red and green.
