The Knife Angel appears before us with a story as scary as its appearance. This giant statue, consisting of 100,000 criminal knives, attracts attention not only with its size but also with the dark history behind it. Each knife carries the story of a crime or a life lost; Some of them remained in the evidence files, while others belong to the painful memories of the society.

Angel of the Knife: A Monument of Social Awareness
The Knife Angel, also known as the National Monument Against Aggression, is a massive sculpture made from 100,000 knives to draw attention to the devastating effects of violence and crime in England. Each of these knives was collected through crime tools confiscated by the police and anonymous donations from the public.

“Knife Angel”The silvery Blade Angel is a striking contemporary sculpture created at the British Ironworks Center in Oswestry, England. This work consists of approximately 100,000 blades, was completed in 2018 and stands 8.2 meters (27 ft) high.
During the construction of the statue, a collection bank of 200 knives was created by the Iron Works and an amnesty was organized for the public to donate their knives anonymously. Also included in this artifact were knives with traces of body fluids, which were seized by the police and some of which are still used as evidence.
The Knife Angel is designed to raise awareness of the seriousness of knife crime in the UK. It also serves as an educational tool that explains to young people the devastating effects of violence and aggression on societies.
The Making Process of the Knife Angel Statue
Blade AngelDuring the construction process of , each blade delivered to the British Ironworks Center in Oswestry, England was disinfected and then blunted. These blades were welded to an existing steel frame, forming the body of the angel. The remaining blades were welded to steel plates to form the angel’s wings, giving them a feather-like appearance.
During the construction of the statue, families who lost their relatives in knife attacks were asked to engrave a personal message on a knife to be used in the statue. More than 80 families made an emotional contribution to the project, especially by engraving their messages on the knives on the wings.
The early design process for the Blade Angel was featured on the television show Escape to the Country in 2014. The show’s host, Jules Hudson, is a World War II veteran under the guidance of artist Alfie Bradley. He participated in the project by welding a World War II bayonet to a metal plate. Although the project was planned to be completed in 2015, the work in its final form was completed in 2018 and this symbolic monument that draws attention to social violence emerged.
The Knife Angel’s National Anti-Violence Tour
Following its completion in 2018, The Knife Angel was put on display on a tour across the UK to spread its message of non-violence. The sculpture was exhibited in different cities, drawing attention to the devastating effects of violence in societies.
The Blade Angel is on display at Corby Northamptonshire until 29 May 2022 and in Aberystwyth in June. It appeared at Birkenhead Park in July 2022 and at Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar in August. It arrived in Milton Keynes in December 2022, where it hosted educational events.
The sculpture was exhibited in Newport in November 2022, Slough in January 2023, Gloucester Cathedral in February and Guildford Cathedral in March 2023. He moved to Crewe in May 2023 and featured at Nuneaton in June and Lichfield in Staffordshire in July.
Next stops included exhibiting in Colchester in October 2023, Bolton in November 2023 and Walsall in December. It moves to the Royal Armory in Leeds at the beginning of 2024, The Rock in Bury in February, and Taunton, Somerset in April.
The Knife Angel, which went on display in Weston-super-Mare in May 2024, was installed in Keel Square in Sunderland in June and outside the Victoria Center in Southend-on-Sea in July. Finally, it is on display in Haverhill, Suffolk, from 28 August 2024.
This tour continues with the aim of the Knife Angel to raise awareness of the consequences of violence and spread their message of non-violence throughout the UK.
