WMO Secretary General Prof. Petteri Taalas, in his statement, stated that El Nino, which will replace La Nina, will cause opposite effects on weather and climate models in many parts of the world. What is El Nino? How is it formed?
El Nino is the general name for large oscillations and related atmospheric events in the eastern Pacific surface waters. El Nino, which means “boy” or “brat” and “little girl” in Spanish, is characterized as the rebellious child of the weather. The effect of El Nino usually starts from the west coast of South America.
