The Space Journey of Turkey’s First Astronaut Alper Gezeravcı has Begun!

Turkey’s space adventure has officially begun! The Ax-3 mission had a successful launch with its team including Alper Gezeravcı. SpaceX’s spacecraft rose spectacularly into the Florida sky from the Kennedy Space Center.

Alper Gezeravcı, who made history as Turkey’s first space traveler, reminded one of the unforgettable words of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and said, “The future is in the skies” in his first communication from space.

First Message from Space: The Future is in the Sky!

In the live broadcast, members of the Ax-3 mission shared their messages one by one.

Our first astronaut and space traveler Alper Gezeravcı said in his message: “I would like to start this moment with the words of our great Ancestor, when the first Turk steps into space for Turkey’s first manned space mission. The genius saying of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, is “The future is in the skies.” he said.

Gezeravcı stated that what he has experienced so far since the countdown has been wonderful emotions. “I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great feeling. “Everything was great from the beginning until now.” he said.

Gezeravcı, who also commemorated those who made great contributions to Turkey and lost their lives for this cause, emphasized that he thanked everyone who contributed to the realization of this mission.

Falcon 9 Rocket Launched

The Dragon capsule is expected to dock with the international space station on January 20 at 13:15 CET.

After the countdown on the live broadcast, the Falcon 9 rocket was launched at 16.49 US local time (00.49 Turkish lira) and the Dragon capsule set out to reach the ISS.

With this incident, Alper Gezeravcı, who officially received the title of astronaut, made history by crossing the border of space. The 13 experiments to be carried out in space will be carried out in microgravity and space environments in areas such as human genetics, human health and biology.

It is stated that the Falcon 9 rocket has an impressive carrying capacity with its length of 70 meters, diameter of 3.7 meters and weight of approximately 550 tons. The Dragon capsule is designed as an 8.1 meter long spacecraft capable of carrying loads in pressurized and non-pressurized areas.

There are also important names in the Ax-3 mission, such as mission leader Michael Lopez-Alegria representing the USA and Spain, Pilot Walter Villadei from the Italian Air Force, and Swedish Marcus Wandt participating on behalf of the European Space Agency. This historic day marks the beginning of the space journey of Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı.
