Harbin Ice Festival; It is a world-famous ice and snow festival held in the Heilongjiang region of China. The festival is held in January or February each year and usually lasts for a month. During the festival, events such as large ice and snow structures, ice work artworks, ice skaters, ice games, concerts are held in the city of Harbin. Ice structures are designed by famous architects and artists. The Harbin Ice Festival is famous throughout China and the world and attracts many tourists throughout the year.

In 2023, the 39th Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival started on January 5 with the participation of local and foreign tourists. Harbin is known as a “city of music” not only in winter but also throughout the years. Harbin in 2022; It was awarded the “City of Olympic Champions” by the Chinese Olympic Committee. This year’s festival is established with a 3D winter theme park, 12 experience products and 10 major routes, and more than 100 events are held. Emergence of the Festival
Due to its size and scale, the Harbin Ice Festival entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest ice and snow sculpture exhibition in 2001. The festival features massive ice sculptures, some reaching 50 meters high, created using ice blocks from the nearby Songhua River. The popularity of the festival, its uniqueness, and the size of its ice sculptures have led it to be recognized by Guinness World Records.

The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival, as it is now known, officially began in 1985. However, the origins of the festival date back to the early 20th century. Harbin, a city in northeastern China, was an important center of trade and commerce between China and Russia. Fishermen from the nearby Songhua River would make lamps and ice sculptures using blocks of ice to decorate the streets during the winter season. This practice has become a festival over time. In the 1980s, the city government decided to organize and promote it on a larger scale, and the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival officially began.
