The water of the river where the waterfall is located has become polluted over time. Rumors began to circulate that a few people who entered the hotel were never heard from again. So what actually happened in this hotel?

History of Hotel Del Salto:

The hotel is the personal residence of architect Carlos Arturo Tapias when it was first built. Later, it was converted into a hotel due to the influx of visitors. The hotel, which has a unique view, started its activities in 1928. Enlargement plans were made for the hotel, which continued quite successfully in the 1950s. But this has not been possible.

Many legends have begun to circulate about the hotel, which the locals believe is cursed. There were tragically many suicides at the hotel. It is believed that the hotel was the cause of the suicides. When South America was captured by the Spanish invaders, the local people in the area jumped from Tequendama Falls. It is even said that these people, after jumping, turned into eagles and took off into the sky and attained their freedom. These legends have affected people who are in depression and suicides have increased in the hotel. In fact, the legends that the spirits of these people live in the hotel have begun to circulate. For this reason, the name of the hotel has been changed to the ghost hotel.

After the legends told, the hotel started to fall out of favor. For many years, only 5 rooms of the hotel have become available for use. Apart from the legends told, the water of the river right next to the hotel is also very polluted. The polluted waters of the city of Bogota started to flow into this river, polluting the water. The river, which has become a natural sewer, has a very dirty appearance. By the 1990s, the grand appearance of the hotel ceased to be pleasant and the building was abandoned. With the effect of the waterfall, the hotel walls were worn and moss.

It was renovated again in 2011 by the National University of Colombia. It has been revived as the Hotel Del Salto Museum. Located on the edge of a misty bay, the ruined building is one of the visitors’ favorite sights with its impressive view and waterfalls. Today, it hosts visitors and tourists from all over the world. The supernatural events told about the hotel have started to attract more attention to the hotel. There are various exhibitions on the conservation of the ecosystem in the museum.
