Glow Worm Caves, located in New Zealand, offers a visual feast with its sparkling appearance. The cave, which hosts an extremely interesting creature, fascinates those who enter. The cave has an extremely romantic atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in a fairy tale, far from the outside world.

Firefly Cave, one of the most visited places in New Zealand, is located meters below the ground. There are luminous creatures that illuminate the dark cave environment and turn it into a breathtaking atmosphere. These creatures, which emit blue light, turn the scary cave into an eye-catching one with a chemical reaction.

The glowing larvae hanging from the ceiling of the cave create an effective image. Although the word ‘glow worm’ in the name of the cave means firefly, the creatures that emit this light are actually a type of mosquito. In some sources, it is stated that he is a star worm.

These creatures continue their lives by attracting their prey thanks to the magical light they emit. The larvae, called Arachnocampa, hold water droplets with a 30-40 cm long mucus. The enzyme called luciferin produced by the larvae combines with oxygen, triggering a chemical reaction and creating a magical atmosphere.

The glowworm, a mosquito species, is one of the most interesting creatures living in the region. The light emitted by living things only appears when they are larvae in their life cycle. Droplets at the ends of long threads of silk have a diameter of about 1mm. These droplets form the larval stage of the insect. After the larval stage, it turns into a matchstick size and turns into a wolf, and then turns into a mosquito. Although there are many species of this insect, the one found in the cave is the only one with the light-scattering feature.

The visual feast created by hanging down is actually a tactic of the insect to catch its prey. It attracts the attention of its prey by scattering light and catches it by hanging down. Insects, which stick to the mucus produced while hanging down, have no chance of getting rid of them in any way.

The larval stage, which is the longest period in the life cycle of this creature, lasts about 9 months. It then closes itself inside by spinning a cocoon. After this stage, a double-winged flying insect appears in the appearance of a large mosquito.

The parts of the cave, which does not receive sunlight, can be visited by boat tours. A very pleasant time is spent in the cave, which is an extremely romantic environment.

This insect species, which makes the cave the most interesting and magnificent place in the world, can live in many places. Rainforests, fern leaves, mines have the opportunity to live. However, such an image does not appear in places with sun. The most important reason for the visual feast in the cave is that it is extremely dark.
