The Continent Disappeared in a Night Atlantis

The Continent Disappeared in a Night Atlantis

The legend of the lost continent Atlantis, which is said to have disappeared overnight, is quite common. After the famous philosopher Plato mentioned the continent of Atlantis in his books, this continent has been the subject of research for hundreds of years. Not much information has been found about where it is and what civilization lived on the continent. In addition to those who say that the continent is a conspiracy theory, there are also those who say that it is under the Antarctic glaciers.

As Plato mentioned in his books “Timaeus” and “Critias”, Atlantis is an empire. The Atlantean empire had knowledge of the Americas, which was discovered much later. They lived around 9500 BC, conquering many parts of Western Europe and Africa.

Discoveries Proving The Existence of Atlantis:

Archaeologist Richard Freund, in his study in 2011, found a monumental city built in accordance with the idea of Atlantis in the Spanish region of Cadiz. The city found matches the place mentioned in Plato’s book in terms of its location. The old name of the city of Cadiz is Gades. This name is compatible with the name Gaderius, the prince of Atlantis, whose name is mentioned in Plato’s book.

The name Atlantis means demigod. Poseidon, mentioned in Plato’s book and considered the god of the sea, was married to an Atlantean woman and had 10 sons. Gadeirus is the second eldest son. He lived in a city of his own in Spain.

While describing Atlantis in Plato’s book, it is mentioned that there are 3 water ditches around the city. There is a canal connecting the city to the sea. It is thought that there is a road that passes from Atlantis to other islands and that people use this road to cross the Atlantic Ocean. In the drawings shown on the Atlantis map, there is a large continent opposite Atlantis. It is thought that this continent is America and that the people of Atlantis even went to this continent.

What Modern Science Thinks About Atlantis:

Historians think that what Plato said about Atlantis does not actually exist and is Plato’s imagination. Aristotle, a student of Plato, also defends this view. If Atlantis actually existed and these things were possible, it should have taken place in other works besides Plato.

In addition, it is argued from people who are engaged in Geological Sciences that too much research is done under the sea and that it is not possible to find such a sunken city. There is no place in the Atlantic Ocean wide enough for such a large continent to sink. After the researches, modern science refuted the Atlantis thesis. The idea that Atlantis is due to a mystical legend has been put forward.

But historians like Ballard find this myth plausible. As a matter of fact, there have been many events similar to the stories of the destruction of Atlantis throughout history. For this reason, the legend continues to be popular.
