The Euphrates is the longest river in Southwest Asia with a length of 2,800 km. Starting points; Murat River, which takes its source from Ağrı Diyadin, and Karasu River, which takes its source from Erzurum Dumludağ. These rivers merge in the provincial borders of Elazig and form the Euphrates River. The Euphrates River, the longest river in the Middle East, gives life to cities in Turkey, Syria and Iraq, which are the countries it passes through. The Euphrates, which is believed to have taken its source from heaven and is the cradle of the oldest civilizations, also contains the first secrets of human history, starting from the Mesopotamian civilizations.
Among the hadiths related to some portents of the apocalypse, there are also those related to the Euphrates River and its waters. It is rumored that there is a great secret hidden under the Euphrates and this secret will be revealed when the time of the apocalypse approaches. Our Prophet (saas) spoke of such an issue in his hadiths. When the time comes, the mystery under the river will come to light and countries will fight each other for possession of it. The hadiths on the subject are as follows;
“Chances are, the waters of the Euphrates will recede and dry up. A golden treasure will be revealed, whoever is found there will not get anything.” (Bukhari, Fiten, 24, Muslim, Fitan, 30.)
“The waters of the Euphrates will recede and a mountain will emerge from underneath, people will fight to get it, and only one out of every hundred will survive. Doomsday will not come until this time comes” (Muslim, Fitan, 29.)

Rivers Originating From Heaven
The beginning of each river originates from different places. However, all waters and rivers come from the treasury of Allah’s mercy. As a matter of fact, it is rumored that some of the rivers come from heaven. In the hadith “Isra” reported from Sahih Bukhari, on the Night of Miraj, our Prophet (saas) told Hz. While traveling with Gabriel, they come to Sidretü’l-Münteha and Hz. Gabriel says: “This is Sidretü’l-Müntehâ. Four rivers boiled under this tree. Two rivers were apparent and two were inward.‘The Messenger of Allah, ‘O Gabriel, what are these four rivers?‘ he asks. Gabriel (as), ‘The esoteric rivers are two rivers in Paradise; The apparent rivers are the Nile and the Euphrates.’
According to the information obtained from the hadiths, Hz. Among the rivers that reach our world from the heaven that Gabriel speaks of are the Euphrates River and the Nile River, which is the longest river in the world on the African continent. In addition, according to the information conveyed in other hadiths, there are 5 rivers in total, namely the Euphrates, Nile, Seyhan, Ceyhan and Tigris rivers, among the rivers that continue to flow in our world from heaven. The waters of these rivers reach our world from their heavenly springs and provide the continuation of life in different parts of the world.

Golden Mountain Under the Euphrates River
There are hadiths reported by our Prophet that there is a great secret under the Euphrates River. This secret is so important and valuable as to cause confusion among countries. When the time comes, the waters of the Euphrates will dry up and a golden mountain will appear on its bed. This mountain will cause a war between people and only one person out of every hundred will be able to survive.
The hadith on the subject is as follows; “The opening of the Euphrates over a golden mountain is imminent. When people hear this, they will walk to him and he will say that if we let the people next to him take something from it, it will all be taken away. Then they will fight for him, and ninety-nine out of every hundred people will be killed.” (Muslim, Fitan, 29.)

The event that our Prophet mentioned in this hadith is seen as a harbinger of doomsday. Many people, starting from the hadiths, have taken action to find this treasure. However, it is not known in which part of the 2,800 km long Euphrates River this treasure mentioned by our Prophet is located. It is said that the golden mountain, which is said to be under the Euphrates, will show itself when the time comes. There is also a belief that there are great treasures underground and that they will be revealed by Hazrat Mahdi (as) when the Doomsday approaches. For this reason, some scholars believe that the treasure in the Euphrates will be revealed in the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as).
The Euphrates River has an important place not only for Muslims, but also for world history and religions. In the Torah, it is told that after Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden, a river emerged from Eden and split into four branches, and the third of these four branches was the Euphrates and the fourth was the Tigris River. In the Bible, the Euphrates River plays an important role and the importance of the Euphrates River is emphasized in the revelation part where the signs of the apocalypse are told. For this reason, the discovery of a great treasure hidden under the Euphrates is of great importance for people of different faiths. This brings to mind the question that the cause of the turmoil in the Middle East may be related to these rivers.

Theories about the Treasure Under the Euphrates
According to some theories, America, Israel and England marked possible gold areas in the Euphrates with the help of photographs they took from space. This situation has revealed the claims that the Euphrates and Tigris rivers are on target. However, although it is officially announced that the 2 blue stripes on the Israeli flag were inspired by the stripes on the fabric called the Jewish prayer shawl, according to some, these lines represent the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
There are also scholars who try to explain the hadiths of our Prophet about the treasure under the Euphrates in different meanings. According to some, what our prophet meant by the treasury that will emerge with the establishment of the river may not be treasury as we know it, but oil as well. Or it can be directly the water of the river itself. With the rapidly increasing world population, natural water resources are gradually decreasing. The Euphrates and Tigris rivers may be the focus of water wars that may occur in the future. In this sense, the great treasure that will emerge from under the Euphrates may be the water itself, which will be much more rare and valuable in the future. However, it seems more correct to evaluate the hadiths of our Prophet in the true sense of the word.
