Ionian Homer, who lived in Antiquity, points to Ida, the mother of the monster flying on the back of horses with golden mane, the temple of Zeus in Gargaran, and his fragrant altar in the epic of the Iliad. Zeus, who stopped the people and the father of the gods and untied the horses, sat on the top of the mountain with his dazzling stroking with a constant smoke, and surveyed Troia and the ships of the Akans.
Features of Altar of Zeus
Zeus Altar is located in Dede Tepe and was formed by processing the rock mass. This mass is reached by a ladder consisting of hollow steps. Inside the altar, there are altar niches, sitting platforms and a carved cistern. A room-sized cistern under the altar is called the Cave of Zeus because it contains water. There is also the tomb of Erdem Dede, who participated in the Dardanelles Wars, right next to the ancient altar.

These structures, which we define more as “altars” in Turkish, are called “Altar of Zeus” today because they are thought to belong to Zeus.
