Suicide Bomb Attack on TAI: 5 People Lost Their Lives, 22 People Were Injured!

A suicide bomb attack was carried out on Wednesday at the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in the Kahramankazan district of the capital Ankara. While 5 people were martyred in the treacherous attack, 22 people were injured, 2 of them seriously. Terrorists were neutralized by security forces.

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu stated that the condition of one seriously injured person remained serious and three injured people were discharged. As part of the investigation launched into the terrorist attack, it was announced that 2 terrorists were captured dead.

Attackers Detonated Themselves: Identification Identification Continues

The two terrorists who carried out the attack, a woman and a man, detonated their explosives during the intervention of special operations teams. Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya stated that he had strong suspicions that the attack was carried out by the PKK. Saying that fingerprints and other evidence were analyzed to identify the terrorists, Yerlikaya said, “We are fully determined in the fight against terrorism. “Türkiye will continue its fight against terrorist organizations,” he said.

Visit from Ministers to the Injured: Treatments Continue

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya, in his statement at Bilkent City Hospital, stated that he visited the injured and their condition was improving. Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu stated that 19 of the 22 people injured in the attack continue their treatment in hospitals. Memişoğlu said, “Our prayers continue for our seriously injured people.”

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş and Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya visited those injured in the terrorist attack on TAI facilities at Etlik City Hospital. In his statement, Yılmaz stated that there was a taxi driver among those martyred, and the other martyrs were TAI employees. Stating that one of the seven injured people was in serious condition, Yılmaz emphasized that the injured people were kept under surveillance in the hospital as a precaution.

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu stated that three of the injured were discharged and the condition of one injured was critical. Stating that the other injured people are in the recovery process, he said, “Hopefully, we will discharge them in a short time.”

Identities of the Martyrs Announced

The identities of those martyred in the attack on TAI facilities in Kahramankazan have been revealed. According to the news of Anadolu Agency, among the martyrs are Cengiz Coşkun, who worked as a quality control officer at TAI, Mechanical Engineer Zahide Güçlü, TAI employee Hasan Hüseyin Canbaz, security guard Atakan Şahin Erdoğan and taxi driver Murat Arslan.

Minister of Defense Güler: “We will respond in kind”

Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler made harsh statements about the terrorist attack against TAI. Güler said, “We will not give up on them until the last terrorist is eliminated. “They will pay the price for these treacherous attacks,” he said. Stating that operations against PKK terrorists will continue, Güler said, “They will be punished every time. “Türkiye will never give up its fight against terrorism,” he said.

Security Camera Footage of Terrorists Revealed

The two terrorists who carried out the attack were recorded by security cameras. In the footage, two armed terrorists are seen coming to the TAI campus in a commercial taxi. It was determined that the taxi driver was Murat Arslan and was shot and killed in the vehicle by terrorists. The terrorists stopped Arslan under the pretext of smoking and took over the taxi to carry out the attack.

Rapid Intervention of Special Operations Prevented a Possible Disaster

In his statement regarding the attack, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated that special operations teams neutralized the terrorists in a successful operation. Kurtulmuş said, “If an immediate and effective intervention had not been made, we could have faced a much more severe situation today. “With the brave intervention of our security forces, a major disaster was prevented,” he said. The terrorists blew themselves up by detonating the explosives they were wearing during the operation.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that 1 deputy chief prosecutor and 8 public prosecutors were assigned by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in the judicial investigation launched into the terrorist attack on TUSAŞ facilities. These prosecutors began their work to collect evidence regarding the attack and to rapidly advance the legal process.

Broadcast Ban Decision Implemented

Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) Chairman Ebubekir Şahin announced that after the attack, the relevant court decided to ban the broadcast regarding the incident. This decision temporarily stops the publication of news, details and images about the terrorist attack in the media. The ban will continue until the court decides otherwise.

What is TAI?

Turkish Aircraft Industry Joint Stock Partnership (TAI) was established on June 28, 1973, under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, in order to reduce foreign dependency in Turkey’s defense industry.
