North Sentinel Island is an island where those who enter do not survive and those who live on it have no knowledge of the outside world. The island is one of the Andaman Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. It is estimated that the Sentinel tribe living on the island migrated from Africa to Asia about 60 thousand years ago. The tribe, which lives far from civilization, refuses to contact the outside world and does not allow anyone to enter the island.
The photographs of this mysterious island, of which little is known, are made up of satellite images taken by NASA. If any ship passing near the island crashes, the tribe does not attack the island with arrows. In fact, the tribe that did not allow foreigners to the island caused the death of a few people. For this reason, entry and exit to the island is prohibited by the Indian government. There is very little information about what is going on on the island. It is extremely dangerous to approach the island due to the attack of the natives.
Sentinel Island and its Natives
What makes the island special is that its inhabitants have had no contact with the world outside the island for thousands of years. This mysterious island attracts a lot of attention due to the fact that today’s technology is very advanced and people are aware of everywhere. Drones and planes pass over it to gather information about the island. However, since it is covered with dense forest, no images can be taken.
The Sentinel tribe is known as a bare-dwelling tribe. There is no information about whether they know how to make a fire. It is thought that they are trying to protect the fire they get from small fires caused by lightning. Although the population of the island people is not known exactly, it is estimated to be between 15 and 500 people. The islanders are not at all friendly to outsiders. When anyone approaches, he attacks with direct arrows.
It is thought that the slightest human contact from the outside can lead to the extinction of the island people. Unlike people who have been exposed to all kinds of viruses and become immune to them over time, they have been living away from everything and everyone for thousands of years. For this reason, their immune system is thought to be weak. Even a simple flu will not be enough for their immune system.
Why Sentinel Indians Are Hostile
In 1880, British anthropologists came into contact with the island. By going to the island, they were friendly and somehow managed to gain the trust of the locals. However, 2 adults and 4 children of the locals forcibly escaped from the island in order to conduct research. Before long, 2 adult natives, whose bodies were not accustomed to the outside world, fell ill and died. Thereupon, they left the remaining 4 children on the beach. It is not known whether any disease was transmitted from the 4 children to the people of the island after that. After that date, there was a great hostility towards the outside world among the people of the island.
After about 80 years, some teams visited the island at different times, gave food and tried to be friendly. The natives, who cautiously accepted the gifts given to them, did not display a peaceful attitude any more.
In 1981, a large cargo ship with a crew of 50 ran aground off the coast of the island. The crew, who encountered the locals on the shore with arrows in their hands, called for help. They were rescued unharmed by incoming helicopters. But the cargo ship is left to the islanders. It is thought that they started to make the tips of their arrows from iron by taking advantage of the shipwreck.
In the tsunami that occurred after the great earthquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004, the flooded locals managed to survive. A plane that made a control flight over the island to find out if the locals were safe was shot down by a large number of arrows.
In 2006, 2 fishing boats that went to the island to hunt illegally were killed by the locals when they approached the island. They buried the fishermen’s body in the pits they dug on the beach. They did not allow the helicopters that went to rescue the fishermen by attacking them with arrows.
