For example, in an advertisement from Izmir Bornova, the price of a curtain stated to be 45 years old is full. one million lira. Another advertisement from Diyarbakır raises the price bar even higher. The requested figure for this curtain sold as two wings is one million 600 thousand lira.
Simple accessories of the past continue to be talked about today with their astronomical prices. However, whether these figures are realistic is a matter of debate. The prices of some products exceed 1 million lira, competing with car prices. However, antique dealers point out that these figures do not reflect the truth and point out the exaggeration in sales.
Nostalgic Curtains and Price Debate
Nostalgic curtains and cup sets from the 1970s and 1980s, which we often saw in our grandmothers’ and grandmothers’ houses, have entered the radar of collectors. However, the prices between 100 thousand lira and 1.5 million lira requested for these products are described as unrealistic by antique dealers.
“These Prices Are Nonsense”
A tradesman selling antique items in Balat criticized these high prices that have come to the fore recently and said, “If we could sell it for 100 thousand TL, we would all be rich. Products are not sold for those figures, it is complete nonsense. “Even if they were gold, those curtains would not be worth that price,” he said. Shopkeepers stated that these curtains, which were found in almost every home in the 70s, could be easily purchased at affordable prices.
Antique or Second Hand?
Another antique dealer stated that these products have no antique value with the following words: “In the eyes of antique dealers, these curtains are not antiques at all. These are items that can easily be found in second-hand markets. Real antique curtains are handcrafted products made with special workmanship and their value is high. However, the prices of these products talked about on the internet are definitely above the value they deserve.”
Antique dealers and collectors state that the interest in nostalgic products is good, but prices should not be increased in a speculative manner. Experts emphasize that the value of real antique and nostalgic products depends on their craftsmanship and rarity.
