Hagia Sophia Scientific Board Member Prof. Dr. Hasan Fırat Diker stated that they started visualizing the underground architecture of the building years ago and announced an important discovery: Approximately one kilometer long tunnels, cellars and three-room burial areas were identified..
The detailed cleaning and restoration work to be carried out in these sections is expected to last a year. In addition, the archaeological findings obtained during this process will be exhibited under the supervision of the Hagia Sophia Museum.
