What is the Night of Power? Its Importance for the Religion of Islam

Night of Power; It is an important night in the month of Ramadan, one of the most important months for Muslims. According to Islamic belief, the Qur’an was sent by Allah through the angel Gabriel, to Hz. It is the night when the Prophet Muhammad began to descend. It is believed that the Night of Power, which is considered to be the 27th night of the month of Ramadan, is better than a thousand months. Praying, praying, reading the Qur’an are among the most important acts of worship on this blessed night. The importance of the night of power is stated in some verses of the Quran;

“We sent it down on the Night of Power. Do you know what the night of power is? Kadir night is better than thousand nights. Angels and the Spirit descend that night with the permission of their Lord for every job. It is a complete peace that night, until the dawn comes out.” (Surah Al-Qadr, 1-5)

“We have sent down the Qur’an on a blessed night.” (Surah Duhan, 3)

The Quran is Allah’s way of addressing people through the prophets. This special night, when the Qur’an, which guides people and tells about right and wrong, begins to be downloaded, has a special place in the Islamic world. The exact night of the Night of Power, which is considered the 27th night of Ramadan, is not certain. For this reason, it is said to be called in the last 10 days of Ramadan, single nights or the last night of Ramadan. It is most acceptable to accept every day as the Night of Power and to spend intense prayers.

Regarding the issue, the Prophet (pbuh) said: Muhammad’s wife, Hz. Aisha said:

When the last ten days of the month of Ramadan entered, the Messenger of Allah would awaken at night, wake up the people of the house, engage in serious worship and break off relations with his wives. (Bukhari, Leyletül-kadr 5; Muslim, Itikaf 7)

Again, Hz. According to what is reported from Aisha, the Messenger of Allah tried (to worship) more in Ramadan than in other months. In the last ten days of Ramadan, he used to worship more than the other days of Ramadan. (Muslim, I’tikaf 8)

Known Signs of the Night of Power

It is stated that there are some signs that distinguish the Night of Power from other nights. It will be neither hot nor cold that night, it will be a clear and calm night. After a peaceful night, the sun will rise red and not dazzling. There are also scholars who say that the sound of dogs is not heard in the Night of Power.

It is reported that Ubayd bin Omar said about this night;

“I was in the sea on the night of power, I drank the water of the sea, it was not salty, it was sweet and pleasant.”

The following is stated in the hadiths about the Night of Power:

(The night of power is clear, it is not hot and cold. There is no cloud. There is no rain and wind. The sign of the morning of that night is the sun rising without light.) (Taberani)

(The sun rises in the morning of the night of power. It is like a big plate until it rises.) (Muslim)

The Importance of Worship in the Night of Power

In the hadiths emphasizing the importance of the Night of Power, it is stated that the past sins of a person who spends the night in worship by believing in the virtue of the Night of Power and expecting his reward from Allah will be forgiven. It is stated that this night was given to Muslims in order to achieve salvation and gain more rewards.

In the Qur’an about the Night of Power, it is stated in the chapter of al-Qadr that with Allah’s permission, angels and Gabriel will descend to the earth and peace and well-being will prevail on earth throughout the night.

According to what is narrated from Abu Huraira, Hz. The Prophet said:

“The past sins of the person who evaluates the Night of Power by believing in his virtues and expecting his reward from Allah will be forgiven.” (Bukhari, Iman 25, 27, 28, 35, Savm 6, Tarawih 1, Leyletü’l-kadr 1)

Regarding the prayers to be made, Hz. Aisha said:

“O Messenger of Allah! If I know what night the Night of Power is, how should I pray that night? I asked.

– my God! You are very forgiving, you like to forgive. Forgive me! pray.” he commanded. (Tirmidhi, Daavât 84)
